Twitter question image

I love answering your questions. The above is one Kara asked me on Twitter. Curves can be used almost exclusively to tweak a photo to your desires, even including color correction. Used in combination with a “non-destructive” layers approach, it will give the ability to radically transform your work simply by learning a single tool.

Hey, come back here! It’s not hard at all.

To re-edit old photos or not? What do you think?

August 23, 2007.

How to catch a pigeon:

1 ) Have food.

2 ) Go to where people give pigeons food.

3 ) Feed them a lot, where they’re all around you.

4 ) Sneak up behind the closest one to grabbin’ distance.

5 ) Slowly crouch.

6 ) Quickly, but gently pin the bird, sort of creating a cage with your hand. You want to keep those fingers spread.

7 ) Secure it with your other hand.

8 ) Hold, but don’t squeeze! (Of course.)

They calm down pretty fast. I wonder if they were just tame, or if they just don’t put up much of a fight. They don’t seem to freak out much after they probably realize you’re not trying to eat them.

There you go! Have a great day.

P.S. You should also let the pigeon go.

Putting the pieces together

June 6th, 2010

This is a montage I made by framing a studio shot with a scan of some various vegetation I picked up around the Kilgore College campus. It came to me when a friend, Morgan, came to class dressed up for a speech. Just one of those “Hey, I’ll do this!” moments.

Peanut butter white chocolate chip/chocolate chunk cookies2008: Peanut butter, white chocolate chip/chocolate chunk cookies. Recipe if you click!.

It’s time for Christmas, cold weather, Santa, lights, baking and so on. Did I mention baking? This is pretty much my favorite time of the year to fire up the oven and let loose with some tasty treats. When I make a hit, I enjoy documenting the foodstuff. Here are a few tips you can use to improve your quickie food images (because who wants to wait before digging in?) … (more…)

Got to doubleback again

Quiet Company @ Brewtones
Quiet Company at Brewtones in Tyler, Texas. This is a triple exposure.

I recently posted some pictures of Quiet Company that are double, triple and quadruple exposures. This is a technique that still gets plenty of attention on film, especially with the Lomo/Holga craze, but has mostly been an oversight in the digital realm.

For starters, I did those multiple exposure shots in-camera with my Nikon D700, and yes, I think it’s better than doing it in Photoshop. Why? Read on … (more…)
