Jessica’s Bridals, Pt. 2

Bridals with Jessica

Continued from this post.
As the sunset truly started showing its best colors, we decided to wrap the shoot in the middle of Henderson’s downtown square. I love the personality in this little slice of America’s recent past, and I love that downtown revivals are showing some promising results around here.

Jessica liked the idea of shooting in the square, and wanted to get the clock in the image, too. Henderson is her hometown, so she was happy to have it be a part of her images.

Shooting on this little area in the center of the square was tricky, though. To get the shot I wanted, I almost had to stand in some of the nice landscaping, which I did not want to do, especially in the presence of so much traffic and a celebration going on at Mojoe’s coffee shop, directly behind Jessica in the shots.

I finally got everything positioned when I realized another problem was presented by traffic lights and signs everywhere. You’ll notice the traffic lights by her hands in the photos from the square setup. Why don’t I just take those out with some retouching? Well, that wouldn’t be authentic at all; It just didn’t seem right.

Also, to keep my umbrellaed light stand from blowing over, Jessica’s mother generously helped out by holding onto the stand, and even helped reposition it when I made posing tweaks. It’s always nice to get an unexpected helping hand whenever you have another person around for the shoot.

I could have definitely kept shooting, but as I mentioned in the previous post, damage to the wedding gown was a major concern because of the heat. Damage to myself could have been a possibility in this heat, even. I’ve learned my lesson about hydration since nearly heatstroking myself during an engagement shoot last year, but it’s still something I need to improve my attention to.

Anyway, Jessica enjoyed the photos and told me her now-husband thought they were good, also. We took extra caution to make sure he wouldn’t accidentally see these photos until they were married, which was also a concern when I made part I of this post (with her permission!) just before the wedding.

Once again, a little planning went a long way, we both came away with images we’ll enjoy for years to come.

Here are some more from our shoot!
