Deja vu fountain shoot
May 26th, 2010On my first portrait shoot with a stranger (circa early 2008), I ran across this interesting fountain on the Tyler Junior College campus. In a pinch for a location recently, I decided to revisit it with Jessica this past weekend.
During my previous shoot, I decided to bounce a flash off the white ceilings, which produced some results I enjoyed a lot. However, this time I wanted to keep things simpler. I carried a Calumet Zipdsic reflector along, and had her hold it for me.
The light was rather harsh, as it was probably around 3 or 4 p.m. And unlike my last shoot, a lot of the fountain was in that harsh light. I decided to use it to my advantage by sitting Jessica on the edge of the shadow, with the golden side of the reflector aimed toward the shadow side of her face.
The resulting light from the reflector was nice and warm, and the shadows helped keep things under control.
I kept it simple, looked for good light and got a nice portrait and some new favorite shots of one of my most photographed subjects. Not bad, huh?

Gorgeous shot! I love how her eyes and the water in the fountain are a similar color. (surfed over here after seeing your shots of Quiet Company on flickr)
